Song Lyrics [Transliteration]
Hm mm mm hm, aah aah, mm mm mm mm, mm mm mm hm mm
Aur dupatte se tera voh munh chhupaana yaad hai
Humko ab tak aashiqui ka voh zamaana yaad hai
Chupke chupke raat din aansu bahaana yaad hai
Do paher ki dhoop mein mere bulaane ke liye
Do paher ki dhoop mein mere bulaane ke liye
Voh tera kothe pe nange paaon aana yaad hai
Humko ab tak aashiqui ka voh zamaana yaad hai
Chupke chupke raat din aansu bahaana yaad hai
UNDERSTANDING "THE TEARS" IN ENGLISH.
Translation in English
Of my weeping all day & night in secrecy, I remember
The days of my unrequited love, I still do remember.
The pulling of corners of the curtains all of a sudden,
And yours hiding of face in your scarf, I do remember.
In afternoon's scorching sun, just to beckon me
Yours coming to my palace with naked feet, I do remember.
The days of my requited love, I still do remember.
Of my weeping all day & night in secrecy, I remember
Translated into English by Deepankar Choudhury
An explanation that is due..
Why the ghazal has been described by me as "unrequited love" initially & then "requited".
Actually in Urdu, this is redundant & has not been described.
But to maintain poetic sense & also to offer a kind of explanation,
I chose to incorporate these two feelings.
May be, as it normally happens, in any conservative family, as described in the movie, the girl did not respond to the advances made by the boy.
Hence, it may be described as unrequited love & the tears are due to pains of rejection.
Later, the girl did feel the love for the boy & she not only responded to his love, but also, took all the pains of burning her feet (as she came with naked feet) in scorching Sun .( as sandals may make noise) to meet him in his palace ( may be terrace).
Therefore, the love now was "requited" and the tears are of sweet reminiscences.
Actually, the movie contained only a part of the ghazal.
In the end, the couple do not meet.
The girl comes to the boy & with shivering lips she was to say good bye to her love as she would be married off to someone else.
As described in the ghazal by the Shayar ( Poet ) Janab ( Mr) Hasrat Mohani..
Berookhi ke saath sunna dardedil ki dastaan
Berookhi ke saath sunna dardedil ki dastaan
Voh Kalai mein tera kangan ghumana yaad hai
Chupke chupke raat din aansu bahaana yaad hai
Waqt e rukhsat alvida ka lafz kehne ke liye
Waqt e rukhsat alvida ka lafz kehne ke liye
Voh tere sukhe labon ka thar-tharana yaad hai
Chupke chupke raat din aansu bahaana yaad hai
Waqt e rukhsat aa gaya aa kar gasl ki shabbi kahin zikre firaq
aa gaya aa kar gasl ki shabbi kahin zikre firaq
Voh tera ro ro ke bhi mujhko rulana yaad hai
Humko ab tak aashiqui ka voh zamaana yaad hai
Chupke chupke raat din aansu bahaana yaad hai
Hm mm mm hm, aah aah, mm mm mm mm, mm mm mm hm mm
.......................................................................................
Another version of this Ghazal by the same Poet is as under..
Chupke chupke raat din aanso bahana yaad hai
Hum ko ab tak aashqi kaa woh zamana yaad hai
Baar baar uthhna usi janib nigah-e-shauq kaa
Aur tera gurfe se woh aankhein larhana yaad hai
Tujh se kuch milte he woh bebaak ho jana mera
Aur teraa dantoon mein woh ungli dabana yaad hai
Khench lena woh mera parde kaa kauna, dafatun
Aur duppate se tera woh moun chhupana yaad hai
Gher ke nazroon se buch kar sub kee marzi ke khilaf
woh tera chori chhupe aana yaad hai
Aa gaya daur wasal kee shabb bhi kahein zikar-e-firak
Woh tera ro ro ke mujh ko bhi rulana yaad hai
Dopeher kee dhup mein mere bulane ke liye
Woh tera kothhe pe nungey paoon aana yaad hai
Bawajod-e-udaye itkun "Hasrat" muje
Aaj tak ehd hawas kaa woh fasana yaad hai!
Thanks & Regards.
