সোজা পথের ধাঁধায় আমি অনেক ধেঁধেছি।।
নিশেধের পাহারাতে ছিলাম রেখে ঢেকে,
সে কখন গেছে ফিরে আমায় ডেকে ডেকে।।
নয়ন মেলে পাওয়ার আশায় অনেক কেঁদেছি,
এই নয়নে পাব বলেই নয়ন মেলেছি।।
চেনাশোনা জানার মাঝে কিছুই চিনিনি যে,
অচেনায় হারায়ে তাই আবার খুঁজি নিজে।।
সে যে গান শুনিয়েছিলে হয়নি সেদিন শোনা,
সে গানের পরশ লেগে হৃদয় হল সোনা।
রাগের ঘাটে ঘাটে তারে মিছেই সেঁধেছি।
সুর হারাবো বলেই সেতার সুরে বেধেছি।।
Translation
Only to lose my direction I took this winding way.
For riddles of straight ways made me think hay-way.
My heart was well guarded by sentinels of do's and don'ts
When did she return after she called and beckoned.
I then cried often to see you with my open eyes.
In these eyes I want you so often I rubbed my eyes.
I was lost among set of all familiar and known.
I now want to lose myself among unfamiliar-unknown
The song that she sang that day I didn't care to listen.
Now when this song touched my heart it turned golden.
I decorated her with various tunes and notes for no reason.
Only to lose notes, the chords of sitar I began to tighten.
