Shaam-e-gam ki qasam Aaj gamgeen hain ham 
Aa bhi jaa aa bhi jaa aaj mere sanam 
Dil pareshaan hai raat veeran hai 
Dekh jaake is tarah aaj tanha hain ham 

Chain kaisa jo pahloo me tu hi nahin 
Maar daale na dard-e-judaai kahin 
Rut haseen hai to kya chaandni hai to kya 
Chandni zulm hai aur judaai sitam 

Ab to aa jaa ke ab raat bhi so gayi 
Zindagi gam ke sehraaon me kho gayi 
Dhhoondhti hai nazar tu kahan hai magar 
Dekhte dekhte aaya aankhon me nam

दिल परेशान है, रात वीरान है 
देख जा किस तरह आज तनहा है हम 

चैन कैसा जो पहलू में तू ही नहीं 
मार डाले ना दर्द-ए-जुदाई कही 
रुत हंसी है तो क्या, चांदनी है तो क्या 
चांदनी जुल्म है, और जुदाई सितम 

अब तो आजा के अब रात भी सो गयी 
जिन्दगी ग़म के सेहराओ में खो गयी 
ढूँढती है नजर, तू कहा है मगर 
देखते देखते आया आँखों में नम

Translation 

I swear by this melancholy evening, tonight sad I am feeling. 
Come to me, come near to me tonight, O' my darling. 
My heart is restless and night is desolate 
Come and see how lonely I am feeling. 

What is peace when your existence ceases. 
I fear that pain of separation kills. 
What if the milieu is alluring or moonlight enchanting. 
The moonlight is agonizing and separation is tormenting. 

Now please come for now the night too is sleeping. 
The life is lost in turban of sufferings. 
My vision looks for you but where are you 
My eyes have turned moist waiting and watching.
