Arunokanti Ke Go Jogi Bhikhari-Lyrics & Translation

Lyrics

Arunokanti Ke Go Jogi Bhikhari.
Nirobe Heshe, Darailo Eshe
Prakhar Tej Tobo Neharite Naari.

Raasbilasini Aami Ahirini
Shyamal Kishore Rup Shudhu Chini
Ambar Heri Aaj E Ki Jyotipunjo
Hey Girijapati, Kothaye Giridhari.

Sambar Sambar Mahima Tobo
Hey Brajesh Bhairab, Aami Brajabala.
Hey Shiva Sundar, Bagh-chhal Parihar
Dhoro Natbarbesh, Poro Nipmala.

Naba Megh Chandane Dhaki Ango Jyoti.
Priya Hoye Dekha Dao, Tribhubanpati.
Parbati Nohi Aami-Aami Srimati
Bishaan Feliya Hou Banshori-Dhari.

Translation

Who is the vagabond ascetic having the form of the Sun?
Appears besides me; smiling quietly!
Can't see you against your blazing shine.

Love dancing, me-a dairybeau
Your young youthful form is all I know.
What a blazing sight in skies I saw.
Hey King of mountains, where is the lifter of mountain.

Your glory please do contain.
Hey, the Lord of the grassland, I'm mere maid of the land.
Hey, the Shiva-the Grand, the tiger-skin is whose apron-
Show your form of dancer, wear Kadamba's garland.

With sandal of new clouds your blazing body please cover.
O' the lord, present yourself before me as my lover.
Not as the Goddess of power but as wife and partner.
Leave aside the horn-whistle and be a flute thespian.

P.S:

(For my non-Hindu, non-Bengali readers)

There are two Gods in Hinduism having a dark complexion.
One Shiva and the other Krishna.
Where Shiva is the primeval god and a fierce lover
who shook the world when his wife self cremated herself;
Krishna is a passionate lover.

Shiva, on Shiva Ratri is worshipped by unmarried girls
for a suitable husband.
Here such a desire of a village girl is described.

Kazi Nazrul Islam, though being a Muslim himself had a
deep understanding of Hinduism (like many Muslims in India)
and he described the desire of an ordinary village girl.

The girl wishes Shiva to be his lover but she can't look at him.
She wishes that he may cool down and adopt the role of a
passionate lover like Krishna.

Thanks, love and regards to all.

Deepankar Choudhury.
