Tum nahin, gam nahin sharaab nahin 

Aisi tanhaayee ka jawaab nahin 

Gaahe gaahe ise padha kije 

Dil se behtar koi kitaab nahin 

Jaane kis kis ki maut aayeee hai 

Aaj rukh pe koi naqaab nahin 

Wo karam oongliyoN pe ginte hain 

Zulm ka jinke kuchh hisaab nahin 

तुम नहीं, गम नहीं, शराब नहीं 

ऐसी तन्हाई का जवाब नहीं 

गाहे-गाहे इसे पढ़ा कीजिये, 

दिल से बेहतर कोई किताब नहीं 

जाने किस-किस की मौत आई है 

आज रुख पे कोई नकाब नहीं 

वो करम उँगलियों पे गिनते हैं 

ज़ुल्म का जिनके कुछ हिसाब नहीं

Translation. 

You are not here, sorrows are not here neither is liquor. 

Match to this loneliness exists never. 

Read this as you travel and wander. 

A book better than heart exists never. 

God knows how many people may be left dead. 

Today the veil from the face is shed. 

Those who count their goodness on fingers. 

Accounts of their torments exists never.

Translation

তুমি নেই, দুঃখও নেই, মদিরাও নেই। 
এরকম একাকিত্বর তুলনাও নেই।। 

ঘুরতে-ফিরতে এটা পড়তে থাকো- 
মন থেকে মহান কোনও বই নেই।। 

কে জানে আজকে কতো লোকে মারা যাবে- 
মুখের উপর আড়াল আজ নেই।। 

  ওরা নিজেদের পরোপকার লোকেদের গোনায়ে- 
তাদের অত্যাচারের কোনও হিসেব নেই।।
