গোধূলিগগনে মেঘে ঢেকেছিল তারা।

আমার যা কথা ছিল হয়ে গেল সারা ॥

হয়তো সে তুমি শোন নাই,    সহজে বিদায় দিলে তাই--

আকাশ মুখর ছিল যে তখন, ঝরোঝরো বারিধারা ॥

চেয়েছিনু যবে মুখে তোলো নাই আঁখি,

আঁধারে নীরব ব্যথা দিয়েছিল ঢাকি।

আর কি কখনো কবে 

এমন সন্ধ্যা হবে--

জনমের মতো হায় হয়ে গেল হারা ॥

Translation 

The stars on the cloudy evening horizon begin to appear.

It was then I blurted my mind out to you, my lover.

Maybe you were not with me,

So you bid me farewell easily.

And the skies cried loudly with pitter patter shower.

When I looked at you, you didn't look at me.

The darkness hid the silent pain that took over me.

Will in near future, I wonder;

Will such an evening occur;

The romance is lost alas, forever.

গোধূলিগগনে মেঘে ঢেকেছিল তারা।

আমার যা কথা ছিল হয়ে গেল সারা ॥

হয়তো সে তুমি শোন নাই, সহজে বিদায় দিলে তাই

Translation

As the clouds covered the stars in the red sky.

I finished saying all that I had to say.

Maybe you heard nothing, so easily you bid me bye.

Verbose was then the sky, incessant tears flowed by.

As I looked at you, you didn't lift your eye.

In dark of silence your pains you did hide.

Will again such an evening may occur;

For lifetime alas, this moment did die.
